Whistle Bear Golf Club in Cambridge, Ontario was the perfect setting for Karalyn & Darryl’s wedding on September 9th. From the moment Karalyn and Darryl and I meet at the Guelph Wedding Show way back in 2015, we knew we were the right fit for each other to have McCormick Photography document their engagement and wedding photography. It was very important to the couple to incorporate personal components to their engagement and wedding photography so we photographed their engagement photo shoot on the rink of the Acton Hockey Arena which was named after Darryl’s uncle. For their wedding in Cambridge, we incorporated a vintage fire truck for some dynamic portraits as there is a long line of firefighters that run in the couple’s family. I am happy to call Karalyn and Darryl life long friends now and I am honoured to have been a huge part of their important life moments!
D: We met at a bar… enough said.
Karalyn: I knew Darryl was the one when he waited 3 months for me to agree to officially date him. He never once pressured me or made me feel badly. He waited for me to be comfortable and ready 🙂
D: Date #3. Karalyn put her hand through a plate glass door window. She tried to brush it off like nothing happened but with blood gushing, I decided to do some first aid.
Tell us about the proposal. (Did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning? How did you feel? Were you nervous, excited, freaked out?
Karalyn: I didn’t see it coming at all! In fact, I’m pretty sure the first thing out of my mouth was “have you asked my father about this?”. Once he said that he not only asked my dad but also my grandmother, there was no doubt my answer would be YES! I was in shock I think. I called my best friends right after (who apparently also knew!!)
Darryl: I actually got the ring 8-9 months prior to asking the question. I already had an idea of what she wanted but Spence’s didn’t have it so I had it brought in from Alberta to have it made! Once it was ready, it was about finding the right moment. On our third date, Karalyn sent me on a scavenger hunt in Thorold while she finished getting ready. On the day I proposed I brought her back through the same hunt I did ending at the Kissing Rock where I got down on my knee and asked her to marry me. I was extremely nervous.
Karalyn: I love his kindness. He is always putting others before himself. He doesn’t shy away from helping or doing anything he can to make sure others are happy.
D: This sounds super cheesy, but it’s definitely her smile. She can light up a room (orrrrr darken one if she’s grumpy!)
Karalyn: I’m looking forward to partying with everyone close to us!
Karalyn: My favourite trend is actually coloured wedding dresses! I’ve never been a “traditional” person so when we got engaged I knew my wedding dress wouldn’t be traditional white or ivory!
Karalyn: I honestly didn’t have any idea what theme I wanted my wedding to be. We had searched all kinds of venues before we came across Whistle Bear. Once we walked in, I was floored. The mirrored ceilings in the Grandview Room caught my attention and I immediately knew it was where I wanted the wedding to be. From there, all the decor (including sequins, sparkles and mirror accents) have just come together!
